H.R.H. Crown Prince Guillaume attends celebration of 25 years of Maritime Affairs in Luxembourg
On 14 January 2016 and in presence of over 250 guests, the Luxembourg Maritime Administration and the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster celebrated the New Year and the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Luxembourg Public Commercial Maritime Register.
Crown Prince Guillaume, Mr. Etienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, 3 former Ministers in charge of maritime affairs and 250 other high ranking guests from Luxembourg and abroad attended an academic session on 14 January 2016 which was organized in collaboration with the Luxembourg Maritime Cluster.
Mr Markku Mylly, Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency introduced EMSA’s mission and activities. The agency was born in the wake of the ERIKA and PRESTIGE shipwrecks, with the aim toreinforce EU maritime legislation in order to avoid similar accidents in the future.
Mrs. Meini Nicolai, President of Doctors without Borders (MsF) Belgium then presented the humanitarian mission in the Mediterranean where more than 23’000 refugees were saved by 3 ships operated by the organization. One of the ships, BOURBON ARGOS, is sailing under Luxembourg flag and was credited with over 10’000 people saved during 120 missions between May and December 2015.
Representing the whole crew of BOUBON ARGOS, the Master, Captain Ruslan Vozniuk, was honoured by the minister of the Economy with a plaque that will find a place of honour on board the vessel. Source: Commissariat aux affaires maritimes, http://www.maritime.lu
