European Network of Maritime Clusters (ENMC)
The European Network of Maritime Clusters is a loose confederation of Clusters or other cross-industry organizations. It has to be understood as a best practices dissemination and exchange platform through the website, informal talks and an annual summit during which each country gives a brief presentation of the economic situation of its maritime sector and the recent actions of its national organization. The aim is to establish a framework for future common targeted actions and possibly grow into the European Maritime Cluster.
Since 2011 Luxembourg has assumed the Vice-presidency and the General Secretariat of the network.
Commissariat aux affaires maritimes (Luxembourg Maritime Authority, « CAM »)
The Luxembourg Maritime Administration is the focal point of all shipping matters in Luxembourg. Its statutory functions are outlined in the Maritime Act 1990.
Together with the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, the Maritime Authority (Commissariat aux Affaires Maritimes) acts as guarantor of high quality standards and ensure that only serious ship operators can fly the famous Red Lion. For this purpose, the Authority deploys a team of experts and maintains longstanding partnerships with first-rate classification societies operating worldwide. This utilisation of expert resources enables Luxembourg to remain up-to-date in all legislative and technical matters. Government ordered technical inspections are frequent and the seamen enjoy fair labour conditions aboard state-of-the-art ships.
Therefore, Luxembourg ships are well regarded in all the ports of the world and the flag appears on several white lists: Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (one of the main international instruments in the continuous fight against sub-standard vessels), the eligibility for the North American Qualship 21 initiative, the STCW white list…
Luxembourg for Business
Luxembourg for Business (LfB) was founded in April 2008.
Relying on the strengths of both public and private partners, Luxembourg for Business operates as a trade promotion agency and liaises with Luxembourg's Trade & Investment Offices, its Embassies, Consulate Generals, Honorary Consulates, and other international promotion networks to foster Luxembourg's outbound activities.
The Luxembourg Maritime Cluster is supporting ODYSSEA, the first Luxembourgish association devoted to marine biology and any other matter related to the oceans.
